CONCORD members and their partners consider of high importance that future EU agreements with developing countries are in line with the Agenda 2030 and the European Consensus on Development, and uphold development cooperation objectives and principles enshrined in the Lisbon Treaty.
Prior to the start of formal negotiations between the EU and the countries of the ACP Group of States, the European Commission (EC) has published its recommendations for a Council Decision on the negotiation mandate in December 2017.
In relation to the EC’s proposal, CONCORD has drafted its recommendations focusing on the need to put people and the planet at the centre of the future agreement. This has been addressed in the following three areas:
